Heys turn their attention to the North West Counties League’s flagship knockout competition, the Macron Cup, on Saturday when they welcome Winsford United to Adie Moran Park (3pm).
The Premier Division side arrive in great form having won their last four matches to move up to 7th in the table with their sights set on one of the three promotion spots available.
It’s a marked improvement for the Cheshire side who narrowly avoided relegation last season. However, they have turned in some impressive performances this season, being led from the front by Sam Madeley who has twelve goals to his credit thus far. This includes three hat-tricks, two of which have come in the last two games.
Heys will be looking to get back on the winning path after last weekend’s home loss to Holker Old Boys. Coming after the 4-0 win over Pilkington in the previous game it highlighted Heys stop / start form so far this season.
In a busy week, Matt Barnes has come into join Jon Lyons as Joint Manager and the new man will make his first appearance in the dugout on Saturday.
The match revives an old Cheshire League fixture. The clubs were regular opponents between 1970 and 1978 with Winsford enjoying the better of their 14 meetings, winning seven of them, with Heys successful in two – a tally they will be looking to add to on Saturday.
