Heys head to Irlam tomorrow night in a re-arranged League fixture. (7.45pm)
After getting the New Year off to a fantastic start with last Monday’s home win over Macclesfield, Heys are in 15th place in the table with 31 points from 24 games. Significantly, they have opened an eleven-point gap on second bottom Runcorn Town and also have two games in hand.
Heys have won four of their last six League games to give themselves some breathing space and with games in hand on all the teams below them and can maybe begin to think of securing Premier Division status sooner rather than later and moving upwards.
Matt Barnes and Sean Cookson both spoke after the Macclesfield game about the need for consistency and the pre-match talk will doubtless be too re-inforce that message and go out and deliver the qualities shown in Monday’s win again.
Earlier in the season Irlam were mightily impressive in winning 2-0 at Adie Moran Park. That win put them 3rd in the Premier Division table but they have since endured a nightmare run and sit second bottom of the form table. They have taken only seven points from eleven games and have lost seven of their last eight league fixtures.
The run has seen the Silver Street side slip to fourteenth in the table, with 32 points, one more than Heys with both having played 24 games.
Irlam will be looking to arrest their slide and open that gap whilst Heys will be looking to leapfrog their hosts and move a towards mid table position.
