Match Preview

STEPHEN HOWARD

Heys return to League action on Saturday as they welcome Charnock Richard to Adie Moran Park (3pm).

Ryan Hutchinson’s team will enter the game in good spirits on the back of last weekend’s excellent Emirates FA Cup win at Runcorn Town and will be looking to bring that level of performance to their quest for League points.

Heys, unbeaten in five games in all competition, have collected five points from their opening four games and sit eleventh in the table. With tomorrow’s game and the trip to Ramsbottom next Tuesday night, they will be looking to add to that points total and push up towards the upper reaches of the table, before turning their attention back to the FA Cup.

Charnock have made a solid start to the season with seven points from their opening four matches and sit sixth. They started with a 1-1 draw at home to Chadderton, followed by a 2-0 away win over Litherland. A home loss to Nelson (0-2) was followed by a 3-0 win over AFC Liverpool. They were knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup by Litherland but progressed in the Isuzu FA Vase with a penalty shoot-out win at Appleby Frodingham.

Jordan Darr has been to the fore thus far with four goals, but Charnock are a side packed with talent who will always ask questions. Over the years they have held the upper hand over Heys with seven wins to four with fours draws in their NW Counties, County Cup and FA Vase meetings. Heys however, took four points from the two League meetings last season, winning 2-1 at Charnock as part of their run of ten successive wins. Last years Adie Moran Park clash was one of the matches of the season as the points were shared in a footballing feast that finished 3-3.

TOUCHLINER – don’t forget to pick up your copy of our revamped programme on entry tomorrow night (£2.50) which includes a column by Luke Seisay, a Q&A with Luke Findlow, news, features, stats, and our Kids Korner cartoon strip.
