Heys home match with Abbey Hey was abandoned at half time this evening due to torrential rain.

The rain started falling just as the players entered the field of play to start the game but became increasingly heavy as the half progressed.

Heys had led 1-0 through a debut Tom Bentham goal, the dual registration Atherton Collieries man converting a Bryson Appleton cross.

With the rain persisting the referee had no choice but to call matters to a halt at half time.

A new date will be announced in due course.
