Heys kick off a busy spell of matches by making the short trip down the M60 to face Irlam tomorrow in the NW Counties Premier Division. (3pm).
Ryan Hutchinson’s side are still looking for their first League win of the season having drawn four and lost two of their six matches. They are unbeaten away from home in their three matches played so far and across all their games, have been competitive and shown real promise. However, missed chances have cost them victories and although it’s still early days Heys will be looking to turn fine margins in their favour soon, if they are to avoid lurching around the lower reaches of the division. They go into the game third bottom with four points from six games.
The Heys Management team and players will be only too familiar with their opponents tomorrow with their former links to Irlam. The hosts have made a strong start to the season and go into the game in third place with fifteen points from six games, their only loss being at home to Pilkington in the second game of the season. With eighteen goals scored, they are a real attacking threat. Former Heys Captain Jacob Holt contributes to be a rock at the back whilst their line-up includes another former Heys player in Kingsley Wiliams, who figured briefly for us in the early part of the decade.
It was honours even in the League last season with Irlam prevailing 1-0 at home on Boxing Day before Heys triumphed 2-1 on an unforgettable April afternoon at Adie Moran Park where they completed the Great Escape from relegation. Heys also triumphed on penalties at home in a Macron Cup tie.
With much at stake and so many connections for both sides tomorrow, it promises to be an engaging afternoon at Silver Street.
