Heys head to Longridge Town for their final game of the season on Saturday looking to rubberstamp their place in the NW Counties Premier Division.
Last Saturday’s win over Irlam enabled Heys to open a three-point gap on second bottom Colne and all but provide safety. To be relegated Heys would need to lose tomorrow, and Colne win with both results combining to wipe out Heys superior goal difference of 13 goals.
In theory it seems unlikely, but Heys must leave nothing to chance as they travel to a ground at which they have never won in four trips there, with three defeats and one draw. A point would do it for Heys.
Longridge come into the game on a wretched run of form. They are without a League win in eight games and have not scored in their last five matches in the Premier Division. However, in striker Liam Atkinson they possess one of the division’s top scorers with 23 goals.
Heys will hope the drought is not followed by a wave of goals tomorrow and they can complete the Great Escape.
