Heys head to Merseyside tomorrow to take on AFC Liverpool at the Marine Travel Arena.
After last Saturday’s home draw with Pilkington, Heys remain out of the relegation zone, albeit on goal difference from Colne and Squires Gate. As they enter their final nine matches, they will now be looking to maintain their improved form since the turn of the year and look to move away from the lower reaches.
At the beginning of January, Heys were ten points off safety but now have a fighting chance of avoiding the drop. Having caught up with those above the hard yards start now as they strive to finish the job.
Of the five sides under threat tomorrow sees all bar South Liverpool away, they host Bury, so it could be an interesting afternoon. Ultimately though whilst the results of others help, Heys have to do it for themselves.
Their hosts have had an up and down season. They were amongst the early pacesetters as they suffered only one defeat in their opening seven League games, winning five, which included a last gasp 1-0 win at Heys. Since then, they have struggled to maintain that consistency and whilst they have proved prolific scorers, led by 25 goal Elliot Taylor, they have conceded 75 goals. They sit 14th in the table with 52 points from 37 games.
Heys have returned home defeated on their all five of their visits to AFC Liverpool, at what is always a tough place to visit. If they are end to that run then tomorrow afternoon would be as good a time as any.
