Game 25 of the NW Counties Premier Division season takes Heys on the short trip up to Oldham to face Chadderton on Friday night (7.45pm).
The game is being played at AVRO’s Vestacre Stadium whilst Chadderton’s ground refurbishment project continues. Chaddy are certainly a club on the up. Like Heys, they missed out on the play offs on goal difference last season, but they are well placed in the hunt for automatic promotion and at the very least a place in the top five, as they presently sit third in the table with 47 points from 24 games. They have progressed through the season in a spectacular way with some high scoring victories and spectacular come backs as Heys found to their cost in the 3-5 defeat at Adie Moran Park earlier in the season. Chaddy are top scorers in the League with 62 goals but have conceded 42.
Heys season has followed a different path, and they go into the game bottom with just nine points from their 24 games played. It was August 31st, at Squires Gate, when they last tasted victory, and they are in a big battle to avoid relegation. Based on last season’s final points totals they need 34 points from their remaining 22 games to stay up. There have been encouraging signs in recent matches, but they have not materialised into results so far. The squad continued to evolve under Ryan Hutchinson with further signings this week.
Looking ahead Assistant Manager Luke Seisay said “The table doesn’t lie so we expect a really tough encounter against Chaddy. They score a lot of goals and it will take an unbelievable performance for us to restrict them. It’s been a busy few weeks with ins and outs for us, which was always expected due to the position we were in. I’m sure it will be an entertaining game.”
