Heys welcome Premier Division leaders Kendal Town to Adie Moran Park on Tuesday night in what, even at this stage of the season, looks a huge game.

Whilst nothing long term will ultimately be decided on this match, the outcome will nevertheless give a key insight into how these sides may fare over the coming months.

Kendal arrive top of the table having set a cracking pace at the start of the campaign with eight wins and a draw in their opening nine games. That run included a 3-2 win at Bury as well as picking up wins over Pilkington and Litherland, before securing a draw at Barnoldswick, all sides currently in the top half of the table.

A couple of defeats halted their progress, as the Mint Cakes lost 1-0 at Colne before going down 2-1 at home to Ramsbottom. However, a 6-1 home thrashing of Skelmersdale last Friday saw them return to winning ways and secured them a five-point lead at the top of the table with 28 points from twelve games.

After finishing twelfth last season, following their relegation from the Northern Premier League, Kendal recruited well in the Summer, as they seek a return to the higher level and in addition to the prolific Steven Yawson they have added further goals to their squad with the signing of James Bailey who is joint top of the Divisions scoring charts with 18 goals.

Heys however will approach the game in good spirits. After a stop start opening to the season Lee 0’Brien and James Hampson’s side have been quietly building momentum and have climbed the table over the past fortnight with four successive League wins over Padiham, FC Isle of Man, Ramsbottom and Chadderton to move up to seventh in the table with 20 points from eleven games.

In the wider scheme of things, they have won seven of their last nine games across all competitions. The Heys Management will be looking for their side to maintain that momentum. A win would confirm their recent progress and establish their place amongst the leading pack.

On the other hand, Kendal will only be too aware of the challenge and a win here would send a statement of their intentions to hold onto that pole position in the table.
