A ninetieth minute strike by substitute Greg Daniels secured a 2-0 victory for Prestwich Heys against FC Isle of Man at The Bowl in Douglas on Saturday.

Heys were in confident mood after a home victory against Padiham in the week while the hosts were looking for a response after losing 3-1 to the same opponents last time out.

The visitors made two changes from the Padiham game bringing in Rio Wilson Heyes and Tyler James and new signing from Avro Brad Sullivan made the bench.

Things got off to the worst possible start for Prestwich when as early as the second minute forward Dean Pinnington was brought down in the box and the referee had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot . But, for the third time this season Heys keeper Jordan Hadlow saved the spot kick, this time diving to his right.

Heys did not let this faze them and quickly got into the game and on eighteen minutes Kai Haigh knocked a lovely ball over to Tyler James but the IOM defender closed down quickly to prevent the shot.

Heys were in control but chances were few and far between until the deadlock was broken on twenty nine minutes when a ball over from the left found Jack Coop and he made no mistake smashing the ball bottom left from eighteen giving Ravens keeper Ben Wilkinson no chance.

It was James next to show for Heys on thirty eight minutes beating his man, six yards out, but his shot was deflected out for a corner.

Isle of Man responded shortly after with Frank Jones firing in a shot and bringing a save from Hadlow but at half time Heys were the happier team being in control of this one so far, despite few chances.

It was a similar story in the opening quarter of the second half and the home side were getting frustrated. This boiled over when Michael Williams was sin binned for ten minutes for something said to the referee on the hour.

Two quick substitutions for Heys shortly after saw Greg Daniels replace James and midfielder Brad Sullivan came on for his debut, replacing Wilson Heyes.

Both made an impact. On seventy two minutes, Daniels had a free kick cleared for a corner and then Sullivan headed over the bar from the following corner as Heys pressed forward looking for the second.

Coop saw a shot saved shortly after by Wilkinson from six yards and on seventy seven minutes it was more dissent towards the referee who decided to sin bin home defender Alex Maitland for ten minutes.

Eight minutes from time the hosts fight back started with Hadlow and Jacob Ngoy clearing off the line between themselves and shortly after Hadlow dived to keep out the ball from another close range shot. Then came the best chance of all with Joseph Walters bringing a point blank save from Hadlow.

Heys at this point were looking nervy as we got to the ninetieth minute but they managed to break resulting in a corner on the left, which was steered back to Daniels, who from eight yards smashed it home past Wilkinson to the joy of the travelling fans and put the points in the bag.

So another good win away from home for Prestwich in a game they dominated for long periods as they stayed focused at key moments particularly near the end when the home side pressed hard. With games in hand on most of the teams above if they keep this up they will soon be fighting it out at in the top half of the table.

TEAM: Jordan Hadlow, Jacob Ngoy, Saidkhon Khamidov, Darcy O’Connor, Nathan Bartram-Conway, Kyle Jacobs (Capt), Brad Sixsmith, Kai Haigh, Jack Coop, Tyler James, Rio Wilson-Heyes Subs: Greg Daniels (for James 63mins), Luke Nicholls (for Coop 77 mins), Malachi Slaven (for O’Connor 50 mins), Bradley Sullivan (for Wilson-Heyes (64 mins)
