Prestwich Heys produced a stunning performance to demolish league leaders Wythenshawe Amateurs on Saturday afternoon.
The Longley Lane side began the day unbeaten, with a seven point lead at the top of the table, having dropped only two points in their first eight games.
However, they were swept aside by a rampant Heys who followed on from last weekend's drubbing of Elton Vale with another performance of pace, movement, sheer hard work and determination.
Heys had to show plenty of the latter in a tight opening twenty minutes. Greg Wills saw a shot parried and Chris Denham fired wide whilst at the other end Sam Modlinsky punched clear under pressure and went down low to save from Mark Doherty.
However, Heys were gaining an increasing grip on the game. Brad Lyons was particularly impressive in midfield whilst defensively Heys made it increasingly more difficult for the hosts to make headway.
After Jon Lyons saw a free kick flash agonisingly wide Heys control was finally rewarded on the half hour when they opened the scoring. A superbly struck free kick by Mark Drew, after Denham had been brought down just outside the area, beat home ‘keeper Martin Blaine all ends up.
With the hosts looking rattled Erike Sousa then seized on defensive hesitancy to rifle home Heys second two minutes later.
Chris Denham then had a "goal" ruled out for offside moments later as Heys threatened to run riot.
The home side made a determined start to the second half but were met by a resolute Heys defence and their frustrations came to the fore in the 54th minute when Doherty was dismissed for a kick at Lewis Smith.
Sam Modlinsky pulled off a couple of great saves as the hosts refused to lie down , one at the foot of the post from Ash Morley, the other at point blank range to deny Mark Hughes.
However, Heys always carried a threat on attack and finally put the game to bed in the 76th minute.
Denham got in behind the defence and as he shaped to shoot he was brought down and George Powell slotted home the resultant penalty.
The game threatened to get of hand on the back of a couple of unsavoury tackles but Heys refused to be cowed and in the 80th minute Sousa grabbed his second with a fine low finish after being picked out by a sublime chipped pass from Paul Tierney.
Sousa returned the favour in the 87th minute, chasing down a defender, he gained possession before providing the cross from which Tierney flicked home from close range for Heys fifth goal of a memorable afternoon..
