Heys turn their attention to the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday when they travel to Runcorn Town in the Preliminary Round (3pm).
Ryan Hutchinson’s side enter the game buoyed by chalking up their first League win of the season on Tuesday night with a 2-0 home win over Glossop North End. That stat may suggest Heys have made a poor start to the season, but after losing 4-1 at Burscough on the opening day of the season they have quietly gone about building a four-match unbeaten run now which includes the 2-0 win at Handsworth in the last round of the FA Cup.
Runcorn stormed to the NW Counties League Division One South title last season, finishing fifteen points clear at the top with an impressive 89 points haul, dropping only thirteen points all season. They were placed in the Midlands League Premier Division this season and top the table after three games, with maximum points gained from a 4-2 home win over Lye Town, a 7-0 away win at West Didsbury & Chorlton and a 4-1 win at Whitchurch Alport in midweek. They have also progressed in the FA Vase with 3-2 win at Barnton.
In the previous round of the FA Cup, Runcorn defeated Dearne & District, (who play in the same division as Handsworth). They drew 2-2 on Merseyside but prevailed in the replay, winning 4-1 on penalties after a goalless draw. Heys will have to keep a particular eye on Connor Spiers who already has ten goals to his credit this season, including two hat-tricks.
If the scores are tied at ninety minutes, there is no extra time, the game goes straight to a replay at Adie Moran Park next Tuesday night(7.45pm)
The winners of the tie receive £1,444, and the losers £481
