Heys produced an impressive performance to win 3-1 at Flixton on Tuesday night in their latest pre-season friendly.

On the back of some headline grabbing signings the newly reformed hosts are hotly tipped for the coming season where they will compete in NW Counties Division One North and they certainly tested Heys to the full in a physical encounter that had an intensity above the average friendly.

The first half was a very tight affair of few chances but plenty of endeavour from both sides. Heys broke the deadlock on the 44th minute when a cross from the left was met by Louis Holt who headed home from close range.

The half was to end however in dramatic fashion with Flixton being reduced to ten men following a poor challenge on Alistair Bracken.

With the player advantage Heys were the stronger on the restart but were rocked in the 57th minute when the home side levelled with a superbly struck free kick.

Heys response was impressive however as they dictated matters with some good football. Holt might have completed a hat-trick but was thwarted by some spirited defence.

However, in the 83rd minute Flixton’s resistance was ended as Heys went ahead as a lovely move down the left ended with young Mitchell Henry applying a close range finish.

Heys weren’t done however. Two minutes later Henry was again to the fore, this time turning provider, as he picked out Lewis Ayres to score his sides third goal and complete an impressive and hard earned victory.

On Saturday, Heys wrap up their pre-season fixtures with a trip to North Wales to face Holywell Town, who have just been promoted to the Welsh Premier League, (3pm)
