Heys suffered a 3-1 defeat in their pre-season friendly with Atherton Collieries at Adie Moran Park this afternoon.
The now annual meeting of the clubs opened with Colls taking an eighth minute lead with a close range finish from Connor Hughes. However, Heys had largely been the more enterprising and in the 13th minute levelled in magnificent fashion. As the ball was moved from left to right, Bryson Appleton provided a superb volleyed finish from eighteen yards.
Heys enjoyed the better of things thereafter but were not able to make it count and in the 42nd minute Hughes looped a shot home to give his side an interval lead.
Both teams made wholesale changes through the second half. Heys had an effort cleared off the line and tested the visitors 'keeper on a couple of occasions but it was Colls who were the more threatening and in the 72nd minute they increased their lead when Kielen Adams scored from the penalty spot to secure victory.
Heys next match is on Tuesday night when Hyde United visit Adie Moran Park (7.45pm). Admission Adults £5, Concessions £3, Aged 16 and under Free (proof of age may be requested)
