Heys continued their Pre-Season games on Saturday with a 2-1 home defeat to Atherton Collieries. In a hard-fought game, there was little to choose between the sides with the Northern Premier League visitors clinching victory with a late penalty.
Atherton bossed the opening minutes of the game, with Heys struggling to gain possession, and when Niall Battersby headed home for the visitors after just four minutes a tough afternoon looked ahead.
However, Heys settled and levelled in the 8th minute, when a stray pass was seized upon and Connor Martin (pictured) delivered a fine finish, lifting the ball over the keeper from the edge of the area.
Prestwich thereafter looked the better side, playing some good football and went close to going ahead in the 25th minute when an Alfie Belcher shot was tipped onto the post.
As both sides rang the changes at the interval, there was a more youthful look to Heys at the start of the second half, but they went close to going ahead in the 50th minute following a fine run and shot by a trialist.
However, the game was much more even in the second period but with both sides having their moments before Colls went ahead through a Tom Bentham penalty in the 88th minute.
There was still time for one last chance however and in the final moment of the game. Lee Grimshaw saw a header come off the post to deny Heys an equaliser.
