Heys take a break from League action on Saturday as they welcome Penrith to Adie Moran Park in the FA Vase 1st Round.
Penrith compete in the Northern League Division One, which is ranked at the same level as the NW Counties Premier Division. However, the League has always traditionally been very strong and produced nine of the last thirteen winners of the competition.
The visitors are presently third bottom of the table with twelve points from fifteen games after a difficult start to the season and last week made a managerial change when Chris Humphrey accepted the offer to become Manager along with his assistant, Shaun Gardner.
They marked their first game in charge last weekend with an away point at Billingham, following it with a 3-3 draw at Northallerton on Wednesday evening.
Away from the League, Penrith have made it through two rounds of the Vase with 2-1 away wins at NW Counties 1st Division side Ilkley Town and then fellow Northern League Division One side Northallerton Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round.
Heys defeated Brigg Town 7-2 to reach this stage and at the time were in a rich vein of form. However, since then they have had a miserable run with a draw at Padiham followed by four successive defeats.
They will no doubt welcome the break from League action hoping the excitement knockout football provides will re-energise them and they can progress to the next stage whilst also provide the spark to get them climbing back up the Premier Division table.
Should the scores be level at 90 minutes the game will go straight to penalties. Prize money for this tie sees the winner receive £825 and the loser £250.
The draw for the next round will be announced at 1pm on Monday on the FA Website.
This is only the second time the clubs have ever met. The previous meeting was in the Vase’s fore runner, the FA Amateur Cup on 20th January 1968 when Heys were victorious winning 2-1 at Grimshaws with goals from Rogers and Kaye. They went onto beat Spennymoor before losing at Oxford City in the 3rd Round.
