The 150th Emirates FA Cup gets under way tomorrow as Heys welcome Litherland Remyca to Adie Moran Park in an Extra Preliminary Round tie, (3pm).
Both teams go into the game looking for their first wins of the season. Litherland have opened their campaign with back-to-back League defeats, both 1-0, away to Irlam and at home to Runcorn Town.
Heys opened with defeat to Northwich Victoria in the League and then Lancaster City in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy.
Matt Barnes and Remyca boss Derek Goulding will both be looking to Saturday’s game as a chance to get their respective season’s up and running.
Goulding is a former AFC Liverpool, Burscough and Bangor City Manager and was appointed Remyca boss during the Summer. He will be looking to push the Merseysiders forward after a difficult period since their promotion to the Premier Division in 2018, when they finished second and Heys missed out in third in a hard-fought promotion battle.
Since then, Litherland have hovered around the lower reaches and have seen a couple of changes of Manager.
In Goulding, though Remyca have a Manager with wide non-league management experience. Of his appointment Litherland REMYCA Chairman Don Rimmer commented "Derek played the game at a high level and has managed at NWCFL, Evo-Stik North and Evo-Stik Premier and Welsh Premier Leagues. He is a UEFA qualified coach with a proven track record of building teams, investing in and developing youth and producing winning teams. He is a good fit for the club, shares our values and Community outlook and will provide stability and player development potential."
For Heys, they could not have had had it any tougher than their opening two fixtures, one against one of the highly fancied Premier Division sides, the other against a side two divisions higher.
Injuries have also hampered them in both opening games. However, Matt Barnes has spoke this week of his pride in the hard work, grit and determination shown by his Players and will be looking for them to bring that to the table once again and deliver their first win of the season.
The teams have met five times previously in League and Cup over the course of the 2016-17 and 2017-18 season and at it stands at two wins a piece with one draw, with both having scored seven goals apiece.
There is no extra time tomorrow, if level at 90 minutes the game goes to a midweek replay.
The reward for both clubs is enticing as the winners will be at home in the Preliminary Round to Warrington Rylands who won the FA Vase last season as well as promotion to the Northern Premier League.
Besides the joy of progressing there is also the financial rewards that victory brings, which for all clubs will be more welcome than ever after the last 18 months. Whilst the losing side will receive £375, the winners will be guaranteed over £1,500.
Victory brings £1,125 along with at least £481.00 for playing in the Preliminary Round.
