It is with sadness the club has learned of the passing of Paddy McCafferty following a road traffic accident in Whitefield earlier this week.

Paddy, was a well known figure on the local football scene. He was Manager of the Parkside Football team that enjoyed much success in the South East Lancashire League in the early 1980's. He then saw many of that side move to Heys and form the nucleus of the side that won the Manchester League Division One title in 1986 and came within a whisker of winning the Premier Division the following season under Steve Braithwaite.

In 1995-96 Paddy was to become Joint Manager at Heys with Mark McGee before then becoming involved at the club away from the playing side, most notably as Groundsman in the Adie Moran era. Paddy also turned his hand to writing match reports too.

Paddy was also well known as a match official, refereeing and running the line in the Bury Sunday League.

By profession he was a teacher and will be remembered by many at Stand Grammar.

Always great company and with time for everyone, he will sadly be missed.
