It is with sadness we have learned that former Club Physio, Derek Miles has died after a long battle with Lung Cancer.
Derek twice held the Physio role. His first spell, in the late 1980's, included the 1987-88 Manchester League Division One Championship season which saw Heys bounce back from the shock of losing their NW Counties League status.
The side, led by Manager Steve Braithwaite, was packed with locally based players and Derek, as a Prestwich man, embodied that team spirit and camaraderie. Our main picture above shows Derek, first left on the front row, with the team.
Derek then returned to the club in 2002 at the start of the trophy laden Adie Moran era. The picture below shows Derek front row with the team after their 2003 Goldline Trophy success over Atherton Collieries at the Reebok Stadium

There have been tributes from former Players and Management.
Steve Braithwaite said "Derek will be remembered for his involvement with several football clubs in the area, he battled his illness with true grit and determination, I will miss you, Derek. RIP my friend."
Howard Riscatti said, "What a top bloke and friend RIP".
Glenn Williams added "That’s really sad he was a great bloke, RIP Derek" whilst Liam Morrissey said "My god what a top bloke, really upset me"
Dave Risby said, "God Bless you Derek, absolute Top Man" and Rob Evans, assistant manager to Adie Moran, said "Rip Derek, true gent"
Andy Murty said “Very sad to hear. Derek was a lovely man and a bit of an unsung hero during my time at Heys. Always made me laugh and a good guy for the banter. God Bless to the family."
Goalkeeper in the 1988 side Marc Campion said “ So sad. Sincere condolences to Derek's family and friends. He went out of his way (more than you would expect) to help me with some of my injuries. We got to know each other over time sharing stories about our respective families. His counsel was much appreciated. An honest decent family man and he'll be missed. RIP Derek.”
Derek was a real football man and a true gentleman with time for everyone. He will be greatly missed.
We send our sincere condolences to his Family and friends at this sad time.
Rest in peace Derek.
