The club is saddened to hear that Barney Daniels has passed away.
After a career that saw him play at United and City, striker Barney was at Heys between 1983 and 1985 both as a player and Assistant Manager in the early days of the NW Counties League.
A prominent figure on the Salford football scene Barney joined the club ahead of the 1983-84 season, in a side that predominantly hailed from the area. The season saw Heys reach the second qualifying round of the FA Cup, equalling their longest ever run in the competition (which remains the case to this day), before losing 1-0 at home to a Southport side not long out of the Football League.
Across his time at Heys Barney scored fifteen goals whilst bringing his experience and knowledge of playing professionally to the club off the field. He is also remembered, above all, as being a great person to be with, with time for everyone.
Barney, who also played for Chester, Stockport County and Ashton United died on 13th June aged 74 years.
Our condolences go to his family & friends at this sad time.
Rest in Peace, Barney.
