Heys start at Home to Burscough

Heys start at Home to Burscough

STEPHEN HOWARD3 Jul 2023 - 09:00

Early season League fixtures are announced

Heys will start the new North West Counties League season on Saturday 29th July at home to Burscough.

It’s a repeat of last season’s opening fixture for Heys and they will be hoping for a repeat of the 3-0 victory they recorded that day. Burscough were given a relegation reprieve in the Summer and after finishing last season strongly they look to have recruited well and an intriguing opening afternoon looks in prospect.

Heys remain at Adie Moran Park four days later when they welcome newly promoted Pilkington. The St. Helens based side were First Division North Champions last season and will be looking to hit the ground running with the traditional bounce which promoted sides enjoy.

After a break for the opening round of the FA Cup, the draw for which will be announced on Friday, Heys first away trip takes them to Charnock Richard on Tuesday 8th August. Lee O’Brien and James Hampson’s side ended last season with a 3-2 win at Charnock, which was Heys first ever win at a traditionally tough place to visit.

One of Heys Fans favourite away days follows on Saturday 12th August with a trip to Squires Gate before a return to Adie Moran Park sees the visit of Wythenshawe on Tuesday 15th August.

Formerly, Wythenshawe Amateurs, last year’s First Division South Champions are highly fancied to make an impression at Premier Division level after their headline grabbing appointment of Sacha Lord as Chairman in the close season. Heys and Wythenshawe had some memorable matches in their Manchester League days and this could prove to be another one.

With Saturday the 19th presently designated an FA Cup weekend Heys next fixture takes them to another newly promoted side in Cheadle Town on Tuesday 22nd August, with the hosts having been promoted via the play offs from Division One South last season.

Saturday 26th August could bring the first derby of the season with Ramsbottom United set to visit Prestwich. The match will depend upon this Friday’s FA Vase draw.

The final match of August sees Heys take a Bank Holiday Monday trip to Merseyside to face AFC Liverpool.

All fixtures are subject to change depending on Cup draws and possible replays. The remaining fixtures will be announced in due course, once the Northern Premier League have confirmed theirs.
