Our recent home match against Litherland Remyca saw Heys link up with Salford University Media City in a new broadcast initiative.
University student Liam Peers visited Adie Moran Park to broadcast live updates on the game, which Heys won 2-1 with a late winner, for which Liam was fortunate enough to be on air at the time and so broadcast it live.
Event co-ordinator Dr. Taylor Umland said “The show was our first broadcast like this. We had a mix of 30 students from across different years and degrees and the event was planned over several weeks. “
The show was on air for three hours and covered thirteen matches from the Greater Manchester area. Taylor added “Everything was created by the students. All the prep, producing, presenting, and reporting. Entirely student driven. We ran the programme from our studio in Media City from where Presenters and producers were coordinating with reporters working across the matches.
It was much like you'd hear on BBC 5 Live on a weekend.”
” This kind of output will become normal from Quays Sport, our sports news brand. From the next academic year, we will be broadcasting like this ten to twelve times per year. We will also be looking to increase our coverage with simultaneous live blogs, commentaries, and social media coverage, All focused on this market.”
Speaking to Liam afterwards he certainly seemed to enjoy his visit and was buzzing that he had managed to broadcast our winning goal live. Heys have offered to host other similar events to support this project and the students in the future and look forward to future visits.
