Heys have been drawn away at Workington in the Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round.
Lee O’Brien and James Hampson will take their side to the Northern Premier League side on Saturday 2nd September (3pm).
As a step 3 side, Workington have only entered the competition at this stage and they will present a stiff test for Heys. The Cumbrian side have started their season with a win and two defeats. A 5-0 opening day win at home to Ashton United has been followed by 3-0 and 6-1 losses at Morpeth Town and Ilkeston Town respectively. They are set to host Radcliffe on Tuesday night so no doubt the Heys Management will be speaking to their counterparts Bernard and Jonno.
Workington were promoted to the Northern Premier League through the play offs last season after finishing third in Division One West. They were a football league club until 1977 when they were replaced by Wimbledon and count Bill Shankly amongst their former Managers whilst their record attendance is 21,000 against Manchester United in the FA Cup in 1958, just a month before the Munich Air Crash.
Since dropping out of the Football League they have played as high as Conference North whilst they dropped into the North West Counties League for one season in 1997-98 before bouncing straight back up. They are a club on the up. Last season’s promotion followed a loss in the play-offs the previous season and they have plans for a new Community Stadium.
The match winners will receive £2,250 and the losers £750.
Further details on travel and ground admission will follow in due course.
