Heys bounced back from their midweek cup defeat with a battling 3-2 league win at Dukinfield Town today.
In difficult, blustery conditions goals from Chris MacKay (pictured), Conor Landers and Shaun Johnson (penalty) gave Heys three vital points to move them up to eighth in the table.
The match was switched from Town's usual home at Blocksages to nearby Astley Sports Centre but conditions were still heavy.
However, Heys made slight work of this to roar into a 3rd minute lead with a stunning Chris MacKay goal. There seemed little danger when the midfielder received the ball some 35 yards out but he showed quick reactions and judgement to send a sumptious volley crashing into the back of the net.
Conor Landers then broke the offside trap to slot home Heys second in the 18th minute to lay the platform for victory.
However, Town, fourth in the table at kick off, hit back and it took two great saves from Rob Sadler and the help of the crossbar to keep them at bay before they reduced the arrears in the 35th minute through Adam Child.
In a non stop second half Heys had to defend bravely as the hosts looked to comeback but whilst mounting a stoic rearguard action Jon Lyons side always looked capable of picking Town off on the break.
From one such attack came the decisive third goal in the 75th minute when Shaun Johnson scored from the penalty spot after Landers had been upended.
Dukinfield pulled one back in the last minute but Heys saw the game through on a day of dramatic results that have thrown the whole league table wide open.
Full report to follow.
Heys Reserves finally played their first game of 2014 and earned a fine point in a 2-2 away draw at the divisions form side East Manchester.
Fielding a side that contained nine teenagers, including two debutants, Heys showed few signs of rustiness as they twice came from behind and perhaps could count themselves unlucky not to take all three points in the end.
Danny Eyres and debutant Ryan Cain were on the mark from a result that keeps their title hopes alive.
