It doesn’t seem five minutes since I was writing last years end of year message. Looking back at those notes I reflected on a difficult 2024 for the club. I think we can safely say 2025 has been a better year.
Our push from the turn of the year to avoid relegation, starting with the “must win” victory over Squires Gate and culminating in that dramatic win over Irlam to secure safety was a fantastic achievement. Yes, it was stressful, but it served up some memorable moments along the way, and I think it’s safe to say all those who were present at that Irlam game will never forget that day and the joyous scenes that followed.
We have pushed on this season and head into the New Year having already matched last season’s points haul with twenty two games still go which shows the progress we have made and it is testament to the hard work of Ryan and the Management Team and all the players who will be determined to push further up the table in the remaining months.
I was delighted to cement the partnership with Marauders which brings together two long standing Prestwich institutions creating pathways for Boys and Girls from Under Seven’s up to Open Age. This has been strengthened with us also having added a young and talented Under 21’s side from which nine players have already seen first team action. I look forward to seeing those players progress further whilst developing our partnership with Marauders in the coming year.
The club is in a more stable position. Alongside strengthening the playing side, we have also been able to invest in the pitch and in the facilities, making some improvements to the clubhouse to sustain its life for a while longer. Our long term aim remains to replace it with a new facility.
We recently signed up to the FA’s thriving clubs programme which aims to develop clubs in a host of areas whilst preparing for the onset of Club Licencing which will be coming in 2027, something which will have to be achieved if we are to continue to play at this level.
Whilst we were recognised as a well-run club it highlighted areas to strengthen the club for the future and work on this will begin in the New Year.
Each day there is something being done by someone at the club and I would like to thank the Committee and Volunteers for their hard work over the year. A big thank you also to our sponsors and fans for their valued support.
There is reason for optimism going forward and as we head into 2026 may I wish everyone a Happy New Year.
