Heys welcome Litherland REMYCA to Adie Moran Park on Saturday afternoon for the second time this season.
The teams met back on a sunny August afternoon in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round with a 1-1 draw meaning a replay on Merseyside five days later which Heys were to win 4-3.
Heys go into to the game in good spirits following their midweek victory at second placed Vauxhall Motors which ended a run which had seen only point collected from the previous three League games. The result moved Heys up one place to fifth in the Premier Division table and with AFC Liverpool and Wythenshawe Town also dropping points it has kept then firmly on the tails of the top four.
The game starts a busy week of games against three of the bottom four, with a trip to Longridge on Tuesday night and a visit to Burscough next weekend to follow. Lee O’Brien and James Hampson will be looking for their side to grasp the nettle, avoid complacency and get points on the board across the three games and build momentum on the back of the Vauxhall win, whilst being only too aware of the fine margins in this division. As Heys have found to their cost in a couple of games there are no easy games.
Litherland start the game third from the bottom of the table with 13 points from 18 games, sitting four points above the relegation zone. After staging a dramatic escape from relegation last season, which included a late season victory at Adie Moran Park, Litherland underwent an overhaul of their squad during the Summer under Manager Colin McDonald. Bedding in so many new faces made for a slow start to the season as they lost their first four League matches.
An improved run saw thirteen points collected from nine games which had REMYCA looking upwards. However, they come into todays’ game on the back of six successive defeats, five of which have come in the League, and they will be anxious to avoid being sucked into another fight to stay up.
Although at opposite ends of the table both teams go into action with much at stake!
