Heys welcome Irlam FC to Adie Moran Park this afternoon looking for a return to winning ways after a recent dip in form.
Back to back away defeats at Congleton Town and Wythenshawe Town have stalled Heys progress up the table after previously having won six out of seven, a run that catapulted them from mid table to fourth.
Managers Lee 0’Brien and James Hampson will be looking for an upturn in form and fortunes in what overall has been a positive season thus far. Injuries and suspensions have not helped the cause but on a positive note Heys are currently 5th in the Premier Division table with thirty points from sixteen games. In previous seasons that would have had them within two to three points of the top teams. However, Vauxhall and Wythenshawe Town have set an exceptional pace this season.
There is still a long way to go in the season however and all teams have sticky patches and Heys aim must be to capitalise on such spells for their opponents when the time comes. Today’s game is the first of three successive home games in the League (and four in total with next week’s FA Vase tie) and it would seem an opportune time to start another run.
Irlam made an horrendous start to the season, picking up only one point from their first four games, although it is worth bearing in mind that three of those games were against the present top three in the table.
They come into today’s game on the back of a 3-0 home loss to Squires Gate last weekend but prior to that they were on a great run that saw them collect seventeen points from seven games, including a run of four consecutive wins. They also have an impressive away record which has seen them lose just once on the road thus far.
Sitting tenth in the table with 22 points from 16 games, Irlam represent a tough challenge, especially with a degree of local pride at stake too with the clubs just eleven miles apart.
