Heys travel to AFC Liverpool on Wednesday night (7.45pm) for a key game in the battle for promotion.

After a stop start season, Matt Barnes side still have much to do if they are to clinch one of the four spots available for promotion to the North West Counties League Premier Division.

They are presently thirteen points off the top four in Division One North but have between two and three games in hand on several sides above them. With only one defeat in their last seven games, Heys have put themselves in with a shout. Indeed, they are unbeaten in 2020, having played sides who are all in the promotion mix.

AFC Liverpool are another of those side’s in the shake-up presently occupying that fourth spot. After a wobble over the festive period, the Merseysiders have taken ten points from their last four League games, scoring four goals in each one. On Saturday, they reached the last four of the Division One Cup with a 3-0 home success over Cheadle Town.

So, the game brings together two teams very much in form, both with a need for points and with only eleven Saturday’s of the season left the margin for error is getting increasingly tight.

This will be the third meeting of the season between the teams. Heys won in the League 1-0 on a balmy August afternoon at Adie Moran Park.
The sides met again in Prestwich back in December with AFC Liverpool taking the honours in the Macron Cup with a 2-0 win.

Directions: M57/M58 take the A5036 signposted Bootle & Docks, at the roundabout under the flyover turn right onto the A565 following signs for Crosby and Marine AFC. After passing Tesco Express on the right, turn left at the traffic lights (by Merchants Taylors School) into College Road, ground is approx. ½ mile on the left.

Parking Facilities: There is a small car park at the Marine Travel Arena, but this is unavailable to the public on match days. Parking is available on the streets around the ground, some of which is Pay and Display.

Ground Facilities: The Marine Travel Arena is one of the best maintained grounds in the NWCFL. It boasts a tea bar that serves hot pies and burgers as well as the usual range of hot drinks. The bar in the Graham Lounge is also open on matchdays and both Sky sports and BT Sport are available. There is a large covered stand behind the goal, covered standing along one side of the ground and open standing behind the other goal. There are clean and modern men’s and ladies’ toilets underneath the stand.
