On a night when poor weather, Champions League football and home games for neighbours Salford City and Bury, combined to bring the lowest crowd of the season at Adie Moran Park, those that chose to venture out were rewarded with some fantastic football and clinical finishing as Heys rediscovered their shooting boots.

Having scored for fun last season, Heys have found goals much harder to come by this time around and have consequently dropped points in games which they have often dominated for long periods. However, the thought always persisted that sooner or later someone would be dealt a hiding and unfortunately for Blackpool this was the night it happened.

However, the night started brightly for the visitors. They were the more enterprising side early on and took the lead in the 9th minute when a long diagonal ball caught Heys defence out and Ben Duffield went through to lift a fine shot over Michael Smith.

Their lead was to prove short lived, however, as Heys levelled two minutes later. An Adam Farrell cross was fumbled by Blackpool ‘keeper Alex Cameron and Lee Grimshaw reacted quickly to stab the ball home at the post.

Boosted by the goal, Heys put together some slick football. They should have had a penalty when Farrell was upended as he cut into the box before Grimshaw fired over from the edge of the area.

Farrell got clear on the half hour, but Cameron was quick off his line to smother his shot as Heys continued to press.

However, they almost found themselves behind shortly after when Ian Rowlands lost his footing and Cain Menzies broke before pulling his shot wide.

The pressure was building from Heys though and in the 38th minute they took the lead with a great goal. Grimshaw picked out Brad Sixsmith, breaking wide, and he delivered a perfect cross that was steered home by the incoming Farrell.

Farrell got away again in the 43rd minute only to lift his shot over both the advancing keeper and bar as Heys maintained the upper hand.

Although Heys looked in control, it is doubtful that anyone could have foreseen what was to transpire in the second forty-five minutes.

Whatever was said by Jon Lyons and Ryan Hutchinson in the dressing rooms at the interval certainly put fire in the bellies of their players as the tore into Blackpool from the restart.

In the opening two minutes, Cameron pulled off a great save, at full stretch, to keep out a Sixsmith shot before, from the ensuing corner, clawing a Rowlands header to safety.

However, in the 48th minute, Heys were ahead. Sixsmith played a great angled ball in behind the defence and Grimshaw went through to bury his shot past the keeper.

Cameron pulled off another fine save to keep out a Sixsmith shot before Heys added a fourth in the 52nd minute. The Blackpool keeper pulled of a super save to deny Farrell and as the ball broke on the edge of area Sixsmith rifled home.

Farrell rounded Cameron put pulled his shot wide before Grimshaw looked to complete his hat-trick only for the keeper to drop low to save his shot as the bombardment continued.

Heys slick football brought further reward in the 75th minute as they added a fifth goal when from a free kick out wide Jamie Baguley curled a shot low into the bottom far corner.

Lee Bruce then saw a shot hit the post and go across the line and out before getting on the scoresheet in the 82nd minute.

The Heys striker, broke into the box, rounded the ‘keeper and although appearing to have gone too wide, he still was able to guide the ball between the post and back-pedalling defenders.

The visitors defence resembled a punch-drunk boxer now, praying for the bell, but Heys hammered home their advantage with two further strikes.

In the 87th minute, Grimshaw’s shot was blocked before breaking to Bruce who squared the ball to Itela to rifle home.

In added time, Heys made it eight as Jamie Baguley swung in a free kick which was met by a glancing header into the far corner by Bruce and complete an emphatic victory.
