Farrell and Grimshaw lead goal blitz

The days may be getting colder and darker but for the second time in five days Heys warmed the hearts of their fans under the Adie Moran Park floodlights with an exhilarating display of attacking football to demolish Holker Old Boys.

The Cumbrian side started each half of the game the brighter but were ultimately swept aside by some superb attacking play and clinical finishing from a home side who appear to have finally found their best form after a stop start season.

Adam Farrell and Lee Grimshaw both bagged a couple each whilst centre half Mark Ayres and the energetic Brad Sixsmith got on the score sheet as Heys made it fourteen goals in their last two games.

Farrell has been the spark to this upturn. The centre forward’s strength and movement has provided Heys with a pivot around which others can flourish. Their game has gone up a notch, their passing and movement crisper and swifter.

It was the striker who started the rout here, scoring the opening goal in the 10th minute to nullify a lively start by the visitors.

A superb pass from Carl Fitton, took out the Holker midfield, to pick out the run of Farrell, who advanced in the box before finishing superbly with a shot into the far corner, off the outside of the boot.

Three minutes later, home fans were celebrating once again. Fitton was again the provider, with a free kick to the far post picking out Ayres, who looped a header into the far corner.

Although Nathan Reid fired into the side netting for Holker shortly after, the visitors were increasingly fighting a rear-guard action as slick passing, orchestrated from midfield by Dom Slaven, repeatedly opened gaps in their defence.

In the 28th minute, Heys added a third. Some great football culminated in Grimshaw breaking into the box and although his cross was initially cleared, the ball dropped to Farrell who quickly picked out the advancing Sixsmith who lifted a shot into the roof of the net.

Farrell saw a header cleared off the line and a shot go just wide as Heys piled on the pressure before Jake Wood broke from full back to seize possession only to see Holker keeper Samuel Stephens smother his shot.

Stephens was to thwart Heys twice more before the interval, dropping low to save from Sixsmith and then rising superbly to claw a Farrell header from under the bar.

The momentum was maintained after the restart, a couple of early corners seeing an Ayres header cleared off the line.

Holker though refused to buckle, showing great spirit and might have forced their way back into the game but for Heys ‘keeper Michael Smith.

The Heys stopper dropped to save a Jon-Paul Stanway free kick before best of all, on the hour, leaping superbly to somehow claw a great shot from Robbie Wallace from under the bar.

Minutes later Holker’s hopes were to be crushed again as Heys struck a fourth goal. Some neat passing culminated in a superb pass on the turn from Chris Baguley to set Grimshaw free and the striker took the ball into his stride to steer the ball past the advancing keeper into the far corner.

The red tide swept forward again three minutes later to add a fifth. Captain Wood was the catalyst with a swashbuckling run down the right and onwards into the penalty area, before, in a mass of bodies, Grimshaw emerged to take the ball of his toes and rifle an unstoppable shot into the back of the net.

Heys made it three goals in ten minutes in the 75TH. Some great passing, orchestrated by Jamie Baguley, culminated in Lee Bruce playing in Farrell who fired a super shot into the far corner.

Stephens saved low from Chris Baguley shortly after to prevent further damage as Heys eased to a win that lifts them to fourth in the table.
