It was not Heys best performance by any means but the three points were a reward for their persistence and moved them closer to the Championship crown which they will take possession of if they take four points from their last five games.

For so long throughout a tension filled night it seemed things were not going to go Heys way as they looked to bounce back from the weekend defeat at Springhead.

However, they were up against the reigning Champions in Georgians who banished all thoughts of their Cheshire Cup Final on Friday to test Heys to the full.

It was the visitors who started the brighter with some crisp passing and movement stretching Heys. Indeed, they were twice grateful to the outside of the post with a Sam Noar shot hitting the left upright in the 9th minute before a low corner kick struck the other three minutes later.

Heys began to hit their stride forcing a succession of corners but the extra threat still came from the visitors in an open game.

In the 23rd minute Heys created their best chance. The returning Dalton McLaughlin saw a shot blocked and when the ball broke to Paul Tierney he crossed for Greg Wills but he couldn’t quite get over the ball and sent his header over.

On the half hour, Heys had a gilt edged chance. A great run by Danny White opened up the Stockport defence and when he pulled the ball back across goal it seemed Lee Bruce must score but his shot came off the inside of the far post.

Looking much livelier in attack Heys created some promising situations but often over played the final pass. Georgians were much sharper in attack and went ahead in the 43rd minute.

A ball down the middle found Heys stretched and Noar went through to smash the ball past Sadler.

There was a better, crisper tempo about Heys passing at the start of the second half and they began to push Georgians back.

George Powell saw a shot smothered by Georgians 'keeper Dave Cash at the foot of the post before Jake Wood then saw a close range effort hooked off the line.

Although, Georgians did get forward their attacks did not carry the threat they had held in the first half allowing Heys to press on in search of the equaliser.

Time and time again though Heys floundered on some resolute defence and when Bruce did get through and was denied in a one on one with the 'keeper one wondered if it was going to be a luckless night for Heys.

However, in the 70th minute they got their lifeline. As Paul Tierney turned just inside the area he was brought down to give Heys a penalty. Up stepped Powell to score and set in motion a nerve wracking last quarter.

Heys pressed and probed but Georgians stood firm. It looked like it just was not going to happen for Jon Lyons' team.

But then in the final minute substitute Adam Hilton cut into the box, his cross ricocheted off the post and amongst the heap of bodies in the area the ball hit a Georgians defender in the face and crept over the line.

A stroke of luck but in the context of the season and Heys ambitions a massive moment.
