The brothers both scored from headers as Heys recovered from the shock of falling behind in the 1st minute to pick up a valuable three points and maintain their position at the top of the table.

After a patchy first half showing Heys dominated the second period and pulled themselves level just after the hour with a rare Darius Photiou goal which set his side on the path to a win that keeps them ahead of Royton on goal difference, although Heys have three games in hand.

Six players were unavailable from the Hindsford win last weekend but Paul Tierney, Max White and Jon Stephenson were amongst those returning to the side.

Heys started shakily and were behind in the first minute. A long ball into the box seemed to carry little danger but a mix up between Rob Sadler and Tierney presented Jack Doolin with an open goal in which to roll the ball into.

A strong run by Dalton McLaughlin almost brought a third minute riposte but the midfielder drove his shot straight at home ‘keeper Jamie Roche before Stephenson fired wide from distance.

However, the hosts looked dangerous every time they moved forward Tom Bradbourn fired a shot wide before a long throw saw Gareth Hill put a free header over.

As Heys showed signs of settling White saw a free kick deflect on to the bar before Stephenson got in behind the defence only for Roche to push away his shot from a tight angle.

Wills just failed to connect to a Jamie Baguley centre before the latter saw a close range header blocked on the line by Roche. Moments later Tierney headed wide from close range.

Despite the lion’s share of possession Heys continued to look vulnerable and Bradbourn fired across the face of goal and a lack of composure in and around the box prevented the home side inflicting more damage.

There was extra zip to Heys movements at the start of the second half and Roche got down well to parry a Stephenson shot before a Jamie Baguley free kick hit the side netting.

Jon Lyons’ team were still far from convincing tough and they were grateful to see a Ryan Alexander header drift wide.

However, on the hour Heys were level from an unlikely source. A cross into the box caused havoc with the hosts unable to clear and when Jamie Baguley headed into the middle Photiou popped up to rifle a shot into the roof of the net with the assurance of a seasoned striker.

So often this season Heys, once they have smelt blood have gone for the jugular and this was no different. Suddenly the passing was quicker, crisper, the passing and movement more inventive and the hosts found themselves under the cosh.

Roche came off his line to block Mark Baguley before Heys struck again in the 78th minute.

With the corner count mounting Tierney swung one in to the near post where Jamie Baguley nipped in front of everyone to plant a header just inside the post.

Whilst Rochdale were spirited there now only looked one winner and in the 86th minute Heys wrapped up the victory when from a deep cross from McLaughlin, Mark Baguley somehow got in between two defenders to squeeze a header in from the tightest of angles.
