After eight weeks without a game Heys showed a few signs of rustiness early on but delivered moments of pure class as they maintained their unbeaten Manchester League Premier Division record and opened a three-point lead at the top of the table.

The game was switched to an all-weather surface at Eccles College in order to beat the weather and avoid a record making postponement.

After such a long absence the pre -match discussion was could Heys pick up where they left back in November where the hosts were their last opponents and defeated 4-0 at Adie Moran Park.

There were some early signs of rustiness from Heys with Boothstown carving out the first chance in the 7th minute but Richard Chetcuti couldn’t quite get the contact on a near post cross to beat Heys ‘keeper Rob Sadler.

It was the 10th minute before Heys threatened when Dalton McLaughlin played in Greg Wills whose shot was just wide.

It led to a more promising spell for Heys and the foot of the post denied Lee Bruce in the 13th minute after he was played in by Jamie Baguley.

However, the cobwebs had not quite been swept away as defensive confusion in the 20th minute left Heys exposed and it took a scrambling save from Sadler to keep out Rick Jones.

The overall momentum though was increasingly with Heys and in the 27th minute McLaughlin put them ahead with a stunning individual goal. Collecting the ball some 25 yards out there seemed little danger but the midfielder set off on mazy run, gliding through the Boothstown defence, leaving defenders in his wake, before slotting home.

Three minutes later Heys double their advantage. If the first goal was one of individual brilliance the second was a team effort but equally sublime.

From defending their own lines at a corner, Heys broke and four passes later, the last a delightful turn and cross field ball from McLaughlin, Greg Wills delivered a deft chip over the Keeper.

Heys were now dominant and as the hosts struggled to contain them a swashbuckling run by Bruce saw his goal bound effort handled to give his side a penalty from which White scored from the spot in the 38th minute.

The half time break did not dim Heys influence and within three minutes of the restart they added to their total when Paul Tierney rolled in a low driven corner for White to ghost in undetected and slot home.

Bruce had the ball in the net again moments later but was deemed offside but it served as only a temporary reprieve as he added a fifth for Heys in the 57th minute. Another superb bout of passing opened up the home defence and the Heys striker finished with a sharp low shot.

A rout looked on the cards but Boothstown continued to fight and took advantage of some sloppiness from Heys to enjoy the better of the closing quarter and they might have reduced the arrears with steadier finishing.

However, Heys were good value for their win as they now prepare for the visit of AFC Monton to Adie Moran Park on Saturday, 2pm.
