Heys and Springhead battle each other to a standstill in entertaining but goalless clash

In searing temperatures Prestwich Heys and Springhead battled each other to a standstill at Adie Moran Park.

Both theses sides came into the game with maximum points from their opening two games, the only teams in the Division to have done so.

They provided an entertaining and closely fought encounter that saw both enjoy chances. Whilst Heys had the better of the first half it was Springhead who emerged the stronger in the second period. In the end both ended the day pleased with the point and happy to remain unbeaten.

Springhead were quick out of the traps and could have taken the lead within the first 30 seconds as Nathan Eastmond broke through and it took a good save with his legs by Rob Sadler to deny him.

Indeed, Heys looked lethargic early on. Missing strikers Lee Bruce, Paul Tierney and Martin Love their attacks lacked the zest and purpose that so characterised their opening two games.

Their first chance came from a Max White free kick in the 15th minute which Jamie Baguley got a touch on only to see the ball hit the inside of the post and ricochet to safety.

Another free kick by White caused more problems four minutes later as the Springhead keeper Kristian Ventriss spilled but recovered to prevent the ball going over the line.

Eastmond had another good opening for Springhead in the 27th minute but he put his free header wide.

Heys though had the momentum. Jamie Baguley saw a shot saved at the foot of the post and White shot over with an angled drive.
The latter was at the hub of Heys best work but in shooting received a hefty knock which saw him replaced by Steve Charles.

Prolific for the Reserves, the striker almost made an immediate impact as his pace got him in to space but his attempted chip over Ventriss was plucked out of the air.

The opening of the second half saw Heys maintain momentum and it took a good save at close range by Ventriss to deny George Powell.

In a game of nip and tuck Ryan Fagan headed over for the visitors before Jon Lyons and Greg Wills combined to release Charles on the hour but Ventriss was quick out of the blocks to smother his shot.

However, it was prove Heys last sight of goal for a while as Springhead began to seize the upper hand.

Fagan and Eastmond both fired shots wide and Gary Shaw fired over before Sadler showed lightning reactions to come off his line to keep out a shot.

With the visitors looking the most likely to break the deadlock Heys roused themselves for one last push and good play between Charles and Shaun Johnson created space for Dalton McLaughlin but he scuffed his shot wide.

It was to prove the final chance for either side, both of whom did more than enough to suggest that their starts to the season are not a flash in the pan.
