Dominant display sees Heys go joint top

A magnificent performance gave Heys a resounding victory at Dukinfield Town on Saturday.

The hosts began the day in sixth place in the table with a 100 per cent home record but they were swept away by a powerful Heys performance that takes them joint top of the Premier Division table whilst maintaining their unbeaten start to the season.

Jon Lyons’ team were dominant from start to finish as they produced some superb football that saw them also hit the woodwork three times.

However, whilst the quality of the football took the eye, the industry shown by Heys should not be overlooked. They defended superbly from front to back to deny Dukinfield any chance of getting a foothold in the match. The score line simply did not reflect their superiority.

It took just five minutes for Heys to open their account. A swashbuckling run down the right by Darius Photiou took out two home defenders before his cross saw a Jamie Baguley header take the ball out of the grasp of the Dukinfield keeper. As the ball broke Lee Bruce reacted quickly to roll it along the six yard box for Paul Tierney to slot home.

Max White saw Town ’keeper Allen Mills tip over a shot moments later as Heys camped in the home half.

White and Baguley both went close before Mills then denied Bruce with a close range save.

With Heys quickly breaking up any attempts by the home side to attack the siege continued as Bruce saw a diving header flash past the post before the pressure told in the 33rd minute.

The pace and movement of Heys attacks was causing constant problems for the home defence and as Tierney burst into the box he was upended giving George Powell the chance to score from the penalty spot.

White came close to adding to Heys tally in the 40th minute when he cut inside before sending in a curling shot that came of the crossbar.

The home side were on the ropes and the woodwork saved them again in the 43rd minute when Brad Lyons’ bullet header cannoned off the crossbar.

On the stroke of half time Mills denied Baguley at the foot of the post to at least give the hosts some hope for the second half.

However, Heys were in no mood to let go. Within moments of the restart Bruce and Baguley combined with the latter shooting just wide and then Tierney headed wide from a Baguley cross.

Just after the hour, Heys keeper Rob Sadler finally saw some action as he dropped to his left to save a low shot from Sam Parr as the hosts looked to rally.

Any such notions though were nipped in the bud in the 70th minute as Heys made the game safe.

A poor tackle on the on loan Erike Sousa gave Heys a free kick and when White swung it in to the far post Bruce slammed the ball home. (pictured above)

Attacking at will, Heys could have added to their tally, Dalton McLaughlin broke clear but shot wide, Sousa chipped over and then saw a shot blocked by Mills legs before White was denied, from a free kick, by the crossbar.

Mills then produced a super save to claw a Shaun Johnson header from under the bar before the final whistle ended the onslaught.
