Heavy defeat for Heys

Tuesday 16th August 2010

Bridgewater Office Supplies Manchester League Premier Division

Prestwich Heys 1 Hindsford 6

Heys early season woes continued at Grimshaw Park as they crashed to a heavy defeat at the hands of a rampant Hindsford.

After Theo Coley had put Heys ahead in the 15th minute the visitors then ran amok with their strike pair of Carroll and Bancroft both grabbing hat-tricks.

In truth though Heys could already have been out of the game before Coley’s strike. A busy night for goalkeeper Lewis Bishop started as early as the opening minute as he pulled off a fine save from a free –kick, one of three fine stops he made inside the first ten minutes.

Heys broke the early dominance of their visitors to go close themselves though Adnan, whose angled drive hit the outside of the post before Coley put them ahead. Adnan was again involved with a teasing cross, which the Hindsford keeper fumbled to allow Coley to force the ball home from close range.

Amazingly, in view of the pressure they had been under Heys almost doubled their lead moments later with Coley this time jabbing a shot against the foot of the post.

Having appeared to overcome Hindsford’s early onslaught Heys then let the visitors back in the game when in the 21st minute possession was needlessly conceded on halfway and with Heys pushed up the field Carroll went though to lift the ball over Bishop.

Two minutes later, Heys found themselves behind with Carroll again the executioner finishing off a fine passing move with a low angled shot into the corner of the net.

Heys were now being overrun with only another save from Bishop and then the post denying the visitors before Carroll completed his hat-trick in the 37th minute as Bancroft sprung the offside trap before setting his strike partner up for a simple tap in.

The half time whistle came as a welcome relief to Heys who had been out paced and out muscled by their more experienced, bigger opponents. At least the interval gave Heys time to re-group and they made a better start to the second half. Although not making any headway themselves they did at least reduce the attacking threat of their opponents.

However, any hopes of launching a fightback were well and truly extinguished in the 65th minute when Bancroft let fly from 20 yards with a shot that flew past Bishop.

It was the first strike of a 12 minute hat-trick for the Hindsford striker with further strikes in the 72nd and 77th minute heaping further misery on Heys.

To complete a disastrous evening, Coley had to be helped from the action with five minutes remaining with what looked like an ankle injury. With the squad already stretched due to unavailability due to holidays they will have their fingers crossed that it is nothing too serious with derby’s against Walshaw and AFC Bury on the horizon.
