Heys suffered their first defeat of the pre-season campaign as they were beaten 3-0 at Atherton Collieries.
However, there were plenty of positives to take from the game against the Evo-Stik League side.
The Heys starting line up was barely recognisible with seven of last season's regular starting line up unavailable. Nonetheless, it gave the chance for the new faces to try and make an impression, an opportunity they took.
Indeed, Heys might have taken the lead early on as the impressive Issac Illidge's shot was tipped over by the Colls 'keeper.
Shortly after the hosts took the lead from the penalty spot, an advantage they were not to relinquish. Whilst, there was much to admire about Heys play, the extra cutting edge of the hosts was to the fore as they twice punished midfield errors to build up their three goal advantage by the interval.
The second half saw many changes on both sides and whilst Colls were always the more dangerous, Heys had their moments and should have had a a penalty when Theo Kidd was bundled over.
Against a team two steps higher, Heys could be well satisfied with their overall performance.
Heys next match is now on Tuesday when they face Maine Road, at Wright Robinson College, 7.30pm.
