Prestwich Heys travelled to play former Manchester League rivals Royton Town at Wright Robinson on Tuesday evening and romped to a 7-0 victory in a very useful workout for the new campaign.
Isaac Illich got Heys on the road to victory with a tap-in after three minutes, Max White hitting the bar from a free-kick as Heys dominated the opening ten minutes.
Royton tried to get back in the game, but Heys doubled their advantage when Lee Bruce pounced on a mistake to score.
Eight minutes later, Theo Kidd finished with aplomb to leave the visitors 3-0 ahead at the break.
Alfie Belcher, soon to depart to study in the States, scored after a jinking run, and soon afterwards he linked up well with Bruce to lay a second on for his team-mate.
Bruce then bagged a deserved hat-trick when he finished off a fine attacking move with a tremendous finish.
The target man wasn't finished yet, and added his fourth and Heys' sixth before Theo Kidd grabbed the seventh just before the final whistle.
Heys' friendly with FC United of Manchester on Thursday has been called off to allow more time for the pitch to take after the extended warm weather.
Heys next match is at Atherton Collieries on Saturday, 3pm.
