Heys grip on the Kenyon Cup was ended this afternoon as they went down 1-0 to Walshaw in the semi-final at Adie Moran Park.
In an often untidy and scrappy game the visitors took the honours with a scrambled Barry Campbell goal in the 75th minute.
Heys were missing several of the players that had figured in previous games in this competition and particularly defensively.
However, they withstood an early Walshaw charge comfortably and although the visitors continued to enjoy the greater possession it was not until the 25th minute that they had a clear sight of goal but the chance was squandered.
As the half progressed Heys showed signs of finding their feet and Jon Lyons flashed a header wide on the half hour and then saw a free kick come back off the bar, either side of Greg Wills being denied.
Wills was again thwarted by a stunning fingertip save in the opening moments of the second half as his header was clawed from under the bar after a great move.
In a lively start to the half Paul Hinchy then saved bravely, low down as Walshaw responded.
Indeed, the visitors took a hold on the game as they forced Heys back but without ever looking particularly dangerous.
In fact it was Heys who came closest to breaking the deadlock when from a corner Jamie Baguley and Ash Oparah both saw headers blocked on the line.
It was from a similar scramble at the other end that Walshaw took the lead in the 75th minute. As Heys struggled to clear in a crowded goalmouth Campbell rifled the ball into the roof of the net from close range.
Heys looked to come back forcing a succession of corners but it was not to be as the honours in a disappointing game, that on paper had promised so much, went to Walshaw.
