Heys crashed out of the Atherton Charity Cup as they suffered a humiliating 5-0 semi-final defeat against Hindsford tonight.
This was the 4th meeting of the clubs this season and Heys had come out on top in the previous three.
However, save for a brief period in the 1st half, there was never any sign of that run of success being repeated tonight. Hindsford were superior in all departments and punished Heys to the full.
Most tellingly, the Tonics were full of energy and commitment, something Heys lacked in spades. This was as bad a performance as any Heys side has produced for many a season.
The opening minutes were scrappy as both teams looked to get grips with a poor playing surface.
Hindsford were already looking the hungrier and it took a goal line clearance from George Powell to keep them out.
However, it proved a short stay of execution as Hindsford took the lead in the 20th minute. Heys needlessly conceded possession in midfield and were punished to the full by a low shot into the bottom corner.
Heys responded and were denied a clear penalty when Paul Tierney was brought down, a decision that proved crucial as moments later Hindsford increased their lead.
Again, Heys shot themselves in the foot by conceding possession and the Hindsford striker went through to round Sadler and slot home.
A great smothering save by Ince denied Lee Bruce at close range in the 40th minute but by and large Heys were second best and a fine low save by Sadler prevented further damage on the stroke of half time.
Any hopes that Heys may launch a fightback were soon dashed within two minutes of the restart. Again possession was conceded, an act compounded by the Hindsford player who seized possession, then being allowed to go through with no challenge to hit a low shot into the bottom corner.
Heys were frankly abject whilst Hindsford were hungry for more and relishing the opportunity to inflict more damage.
It was infact surprising it took them until the 80th minute to do so when a deft header from a free kick brought their fourth.
Heys embarrassment was completed in the 90th minute when Sadler allowed a looping header to squirm from his grasp and into the net.
