Hospital Cup tie settled by injury time winner

An injury time strike by Chris Quirke gave Heys a thrilling 4-3 win at Hindsford in the Bolton Hospital Cup tonight.

In a sometimes fiery encounter the Heys winger smashed home the winner only moments after the home side had levelled and seemed set to take the game to penalties.

After a cagey opening it was Heys who gained the upper hand and they took the lead in the 21st minute. A Max White (pictured) corner caused havoc in the box and ended up in the back of the net off a Hindsford defender.

However, Heys were then rocked by two goals in as many minutes on the half hour, one from the penalty spot, that put the hosts in front.

On the stroke of half time though Heys hit back when White steered home from a free kick.

Within ten minutes of the restart Heys were in front when Paul Tierney capitalised on a goalkeeping error.

And that’s how it stayed until a frantic finish saw Hindsford level in the 89th minute before Heys went back up field for Quirke to smash home the winner.
