Johnson winner sinks Springhead

Heys held firm to top the table for the first time since last winning the league in 2007.

Heys hit the top of the Premier Division table with a hard earned but ultimately deserved 2-1 win over Springhead at Adie Moran Park today.

On a heavy pitch, a tight first half ended scoreless. However, Jon Lyons side upped the ante after the break and camped in the Springhead half only to fall behind in the 57th minute.

With arguably the visitors first foray forward a coming together in the box brought about a penalty from which Paul Stevenson put his side in front.

Heys responded however almost immediately when an Ashford Blake shot was handled and from the resultant spot kick George Powell made no mistake.

The almost constant pressure Heys exerted finally brought its rewards in the 74th minute.

From a Brad Lyons corner the ball broke to Shaun Johnson and he fired in an angled shot just inside the post.

A battling Springhead, made it hard for Heys throughout and applied late pressure to make it a nervous finish.

However, Heys held firm to top the table for the first time since last winning the league in 2007.
