Sousa double as Ammies unbeaten record is smashed

Heys produced a stunning performance to demolish league leaders Wythenshawe Amateurs this afternoon.

The Longley Lane side began the day unbeaten with a seven point lead at the top of the table, having dropped only two points in their first eight games.

However, they were swept aside by a rampant Heys who followed on from last weekend's drubbing of Elton Vale with another performance of pace, movement, and sheer hard work and determination.

Heys had to show plenty of the latter in the opening twenty minutes before taking control of the game.

They opened the scoring on the half hour with a superbly struck free kick by Mark Drew before Erike Sousa seized on defensive hesitancy to rifle home Heys second two minutes later.

Chris Denham had a "goal" ruled out for offiside moments later as Heys threatened to run riot.

The home side made a determined start to the second half but were met by a resolute Heys defence and their frustrations came to the fore in the 54th minute when Mark Doherty was dismissed for a kick at Lewis Smith.

Sam Modlinsky pulled off a couple of great saves as the hosts refused to lie down but Heys always carried a threat on attack and finally put the game to bed in the 76th minute.

Denham was brought down and George Powell slotted home the penalty.

Despite a few unsavoury tackles Heys refused to be cowed and Sousa added his second in the 80th minute with a fine low finish after a sublime pass from Paul Tierney.

Sousa returned the favour in the 87th minute providing the cross from which Tierney scored Heys fifth goal of a memorable afternoon.

Full report to follow.
