Heys welcome League leaders Vauxhall Motors to Adie Moran Park in what set to be our first Saturday home game for two months.

Lee O’Brien and James Hampson will be looking for their side to build on Tuesday night’s 2-0 win over Longridge Town. After a difficult period of only one win in seven games, the three points were welcome. However, the manner of the performance was just as pleasing, with Heys looking like the side that entertained us so much in the opening three months of the season. The hope now will be to build on that result and begin to climb back up the table.

They will certainly have to repeat that level of performance against a Vauxhall side that presently have a five point cushion at the top of the table with a game in hand on their two closest challengers Wythenshawe Town and AVRO. Only 5th placed Bury AFC, whom they still have to face twice, with five games in hand can overtake them.

From the outset Mick McGraa’s side have set the pace going unbeaten in their first fifteen League games of which thirteen were won. Three defeats in six games, which included a 1-0 home loss to Heys, suggested their bubble might have burst. However, they have since won five of their last six games, including a fiery 3-0 win at Wythenshawe Town during which they had three players sent off with the hosts having two dismissed.

Today’s game brings together two of the meanest defences in the Division. Only Bury AFC, with 19 goals, have conceded fewer than Vauxhall’s 22 goals, but have played five games fewer than the Motormen’s twenty-seven. Heys have the fourth best defence with 26 goals conceded in 27 games, behind AVRO with 24 conceded in 29 games.

The game between the clubs at Vauxhall in November was a tight affair, settled in Heys favour by a late Vinny Howell goal. Last season, the only other times that the sides have met, Vauxhall won 2-1 at home with Heys then taking the honours with a 3-1 win here at Adie Moran Park.
