Heys and Lower Breck meet at Adie Moran Park this Boxing Day, both initially hoping that they can return to action. The past weeks have proved frustrating for both clubs as the weather and other factors have combined to stop them playing. Heys haven’t played since December 3rd with the weather and then a Power Failure, moments before the kick-off of Tuesday night’s home game with Longridge Town, preventing them from returning to action.
Lower Breck have had to wait a little longer since they last played on 30th November, suffering a 4-3 “derby” defeat at AFC Liverpool. That loss followed a 3-1 defeat to Bury AFC, results that put a check on the Merseyside outfits steady climb up the table.
The early parts of the season saw Breck struggle for consistency but a late October into mid November run of better results, that included a spell of three wins in four and featured a 4-0 home win over Wythenshawe Town saw them climb to mid-table. Despite their inactivity, they remain 11th in the table with 29 points from 22 games.
Heys will be looking to rediscover their form after a run of indifferent results. Their last eight League games in all competition have delivered just eight points to take the gloss of the bright start to the season.
However, although they have lost ground on the top Heys can reflect on real progress this season. As Lee 0’Brien said recently “Results have not been quite what we expected over the past month or so, but I genuinely think myself, James Hampson and the staff deserve credit for the job we have done so far. We have had to put together a completely new team /squad, and we always said it would not be plain sailing. It’s worth noting we are just a couple of wins away from last season’s final Points tally already, so the improvement is pretty obvious to see.”
The Heys management will be hoping the weather enforced break has had a positive, refreshing effect on their players and they can head into the New Year with a return to winning ways.
