The new era at Heys begins in earnest on Saturday as the North West Counties League Premier Division season gets underway with a home game against Burscough (3pm).
It’s been a busy Summer at the club following the appointment of Lee O’Brien and James Hampson as Joint Managers. The duo have overseen a radical overhaul of the playing staff with only four members of last season’s squad remaining at the club.
Pre-Season form has been encouraging and with plenty of off the field activity with new sponsors , new kit and a new 100 seat main stand, which will be opened by the Mayor of Bury at 1.30pm tomorrow, hopes and expectations are running high.
Lee O'Brien has spoken about the need to banish from the mind all that has happened and focus on the game saying "We need to be professional and get the job done"
History shows that pre-season can often count for nothing once the season starts and Heys will have to be on their mettle if they are to hit the ground running and get early points on the board against a Burscough outfit who came seventh last season.
They too are under new Management in Leon Mike. The former Manchester City and Aberdeen player took over at Burscough in the Summer and has also undertaken a revamp of the squad. Amongst their signings are former Heys striker Cory Knight.
In many ways its a step into the unknown for both sides. Last season Heys enjoyed the better of their meetings, winning at Burscough with the return match drawn. However, given the changes at both clubs those results shed no light on how tomorrow's game may pan out.
