Heys take a break from the League tomorrow when they renew acquaintances with Stockport Georgians in the NW Counties Macron Cup 1st Round (3pm).

The sides were regular opponents in the Manchester League but have not met since Heys promotion to the Counties in 2016. Georgians have been building towards joining Heys for many years and after seeing their hopes delayed by Covid finally fulfilled their ambitions in the Summer. Heys fans travelling tomorrow will see a different looking Cromley Road from their last visit, with their ground improvements topped off by the playing of their first floodlit home match in midweek when they drew 1-1 with Cheadle Heath Nomads in front of a bumper 478 crowd.

Like many newly promoted sides Georgians found the step up difficult initially picking up two points from their opening four League games whilst going out of the Edward Case Cup. However, they have since found their feet with only one defeat in their last eight games, five of which have been won. Georgians sit seventh in Division One South with nineteen points from twelve games.

Heys too, come into the game in good form, with six wins in their last seven League games having lifted them to fourth in the Premier Division. With injuries easing too, Lee O’Brien and James Hampson hope to have Darcy O’Connor, Kai Haigh and Kaiden Barlow available again too to add to those in action in recent games.

With two teams in form, mixed with the unpredictability of Cup football, it could be an interesting afternoon at Cromley Road.
