Heys host their final Home game of the season on Saturday when they welcome to Irlam to Adie Moran Park (3pm).
The stakes could not be higher for Ryan Hutchinson’s side as they battle to retain their NW Counties Premier Division status. Having lifted themselves out of the bottom two with their thrilling 3-2 comeback win at Barnoldswick they must endeavour to pick up another three points tomorrow to keep their heads above water.
With only one game remaining after tomorrow the margins for error are as tight as they can be. With Colne playing on Friday night at AFC Liverpool, Heys will go into the game knowing how they stand in the relegation battle. Heys ideally need a win, irrespective of what the Colne score was. If they can win and Colne lose, Heys will be as good as safe. Colne could only overtake them by winning their last game, hoping we lose whilst turning around a goal difference between the clubs of at least eleven goals.
If Colne win and Heys lose, then Heys have to win at Longridge next Saturday and hope Colne lose at home to Abbey Hey.
If Colne and Heys both draw, then Heys have to match their result next Saturday to stay up.
If Heys and Colne both win it goes to the last game and Heys would need to match their result to stay up. Although, a win for both, could also draw others into the equation. For example, if Pilkington and South Liverpool were to both lose, all four sides will go into the last match with the possibility of being relegated.
Irlam go into the game in sixth place, six points behind fifth placed West Didsbury & Chorlton. They can only claim a play-off place by winning both their last two games, hoping Didsbury lose both, and turning around a goal difference of seventeen goals.
For wise there is nothing between the sides. Heys have taken eight points from their last six with Irlam having taken nine.
It promises to be another nerve shredding afternoon!
