Heys head into Lancashire tomorrow for what could prove a defining game at Colne (3pm).
The two sides have been in and around the relegation zone all season and as we head into the last five matches both remain in danger.
Colne are presently third from bottom with 30 points from their 41 games, with Heys propping up the table with 27 points from the same number of matches.
It is certainly a match Heys cannot afford to lose, but in truth it does seem one they really need to win. A victory would take them above their hosts on goal difference, with Heys presently seven goals better off. Whilst a draw would maintain the status quo, Heys do look to have the tougher run in over the last four games. On that basis a loss, would leave Prestwich six points adrift and facing a huge task to stay up.
Form wise Colne come into the game slightly better off with five points from their last six games but having lost their last two. Heys have three points from the last six with results alternating between draws and losses. Of those three draws Heys may reflect that they should have been wins, with injury times goals conceded against Pilkington and Isle of Man denying them wins and a late penalty miss in the draw at Abbey Hey.
As frustrating as that is however, when looking at the bigger picture, at the turn of the year, having played 29 games, Heys propped up the table and were eight points behind Colne and ten behind third bottom Squires Gate. At that point they would have taken entering the last five matches with a chance of staying up.
They will enter tomorrow’s game looking to keep those hopes alive for the final four matches.
