A superb first half strike by Jordan Pendlebury gave Heys a hard earned win over a Bury XI at Adie Moran Park.
On a balmy evening, a bumper crowd of 168 saw Jon Lyons team secure victory over a youthful Bury side.
In a game played at terrific pace chances were few and far between but both sides had their moments.
Bury opened the brighter with some crisp passing and movement but it was Heys who carved out the first opening in the 25th minute.
A deft pass with outside of the boot by Haydn Foulds played in Pendlebury whose crisp shot was parried past the post.
From the ensuing corner Heys went close again but Mark Ayres header drifted just wide of the post.
Bury hit back with a good spell of pressure themselves with a couple of sightings on goal seeing shots go wide.
However, on the stroke of half time Heys took the lead. As the ball broke on the edge of the area Pendlebury showed some quick feet before burying a shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
Bury started the second half strongly to test the Heys rearguard but despite a couple of openings were unable to significantly trouble the hosts goal.
Indeed, as in the first half, Heys created the first real chance as a strong run by Rio Wilson-Heyes ended with a shot that the keeper held at the near post.
Robson Brown also went close with a shot from wide out after a mix up between the Bury keeper and his defence
Amidst a raft of changes and the heat taking its toll the game lost some of its fluidity and both teams spurned some promising opportunities.
The spoils ultimately went Heys way and Jon Lyons will take many positives from the game as the season looms on the horizon.
